31 May
- [Doug] Welcome to my last update as webmaster of this site. I tried to make it a big one. I have prepared a
Farewell Statement
, for those of you who may be interested. I will still be able to be reached at
for personal discussions, but from this point on, all website-related correspondence should be directed to Simon. Please refer to the
Contact Information
page for the proper email addresses for site submissions.
At this time, I have emptied my in-box of all remaining contributed material. A small number of them I have forwarded on to Simon, but most of them are posted below. If you had sent something to the site and it was never posted, it may have been lost in my email fiasco last week. Please contact Simon to find out if you need to resubmit it.
24 May - [Simon] Some new updates for today, I will start of by apologising to the owner of a slightly used (one lady owner low mileage!!) Kübelwagen , I have a feeling I know who it belongs to, but rather than trust my memory, I would ask the owner to drop me a line with some details, as the e-mail has mysteriously disappeared!!. I know that the Hummel/Nashorn article has been quiet for some time, however with the upcoming release from Dragon and Revell of these vehicles, I thought that it might be of interest to open it again, besides I think that Ricks models need showing. New to the Gallery we have
I am also running low on Gallery entries and contributions, so if anybody has anything then send it in, otherwise it means that I will have to write something or even worse still, finish something for the Gallery !!! The mystery of the Kübelwagon has been solved. 8 May - [Doug] You know, you think it could never happen to you, and then WHAM! This morning I was running my regular virus scan of my system, which resulted in a virus being found in one of my email program files. The virus scanner said that the file was successfully fixed. However, when I opened my email program (Eudora) to check for new messages, I got a warning telling me that my email folder titled OTW-General was missing. Sure enough, I looked around for something to salvage, but it is history. Gone. Kaput. Let me explain the magnitude of this disaster: I have separate folders set up for five or six modeling friends who I correspond with often. Also, whenever I receive a message sent to it gets transferred to a special contributions folder. ALL OTHER EMAIL that is sent to went into my General folder. That folder is now gone. I have lost over 200 email messages dating back several years, and up to this morning. (I still have many contributed reviews awaiting processing. If you sent your material to the contributions address, I still have them, and plan on posting them as soon as I can.) There really is nothing else that I can say. There was a very large number of people awaiting replies from me on various topics and questions, and now I can no longer answer them. I am really, truly, very sorry about this. I know that my response time had always been very slow to begin with, but I honestly had planned on replying to everyone who had written to me. If you had been waiting for a reply from me, you will never get it, unless you resend your original message. Please accept my most humble apology. I also have some other news. From this point forward, Simon will be processing all contributed material, not just the Gallery as he had been doing to this point. So if you send something to , that message will be received by Simon. To speak with me personally, please send your messages to . Also, any manufacturer or retailer who is interested in sending in review products to On The Way, please contact Simon - - for a mailing address and additional information. Thank you. And now for some new updates:
Please remember to vote in the 2005 Most Wanted Kit Survey . We've had a very low voter turnout so far. 26 April - [Simon]
24 April - [Doug] Today's update mostly consists of revised kit lists. Check out the Industry News page for a lot of new items and links. I am in the process of updating my Sherman Story article . The text in this article is very out of date, but the kit list (page 3 of the article) has been revised and I believe is now current. Hopefully I will finish the revised article in the next week or so. Today also sees the first of what I hope to be many new Viewer Opinion Polls . Also in the way of opinions, we have now started the 2005 Most Wanted Kit Survey . And to add just a little bit of new content for the day:
07 April - [Simon] Due to the size of the Post world war II gallery index, I have now split it in to 3 groups, A-L, M-S, and T-Z, with the A-L group also covering the numeric designations for the moment. I hope that you will find this arrangement much easier to navigate. 03 April - [Simon]
27 March - [Doug]
22 March - [Simon] After the chaos of the last few weeks, normality reigns again and it is time for me to catch up on some gallery updates which will follow in fairly quick succession. I have had to add a new category to the gallery in the shape of a Japanese section, at the moment there is only one entry so a few more entries would be nice ! New for today we have: -
21 March - [Doug]
13 March - [Doug] Sorry it's been so long since the last update. I spent most of this weekend updating many kit lists, so I had time for processing only a couple of contributions. I hope to add steadily throughout the week, maybe one or two each evening. Note from CPL Overby: he is currently on detail in Alaska, so there may be a delay in processing orders.
13 February - [Doug] Yes, I have returned from vacation (otherwise known as wallowing in lonely misery). I'm very sorry about the delay in updates, and I thank Simon for keeping you all entertained in the meantime. I'll begin with a few notes, before listing today's updates:
OK, here are some new items for today:
23 January - [Simon] I have added a new category to the Gallery. in the shape of WWII Italy , we finally have some Italian vehicles.
9 January - [Simon] Firstly I must apologise to everyone, Doug included, for the delay in putting the gallery updates up, I didn't realise just how organised I needed to be ! and what first seemed like a piece of cake, turns out to be a bit more involved than I originally anticipated. Being now more organised, I won't run into the problems I have been doing and thing will flow a lot more smoother from now.
3 January - [Doug] I'm sitting here at home waiting for the movers to arrive to pick up my wife's stuff for shipment out to Denver, so I figure I'll kill some time with another small update.
2 January - [Doug] I'm sorry it's been so long since the last update. My wife took a new job out in Denver, and we moved her out there this past week. As you can imagine, it's been a stressful month. Here's wishing everyone a Happy New Year. May it be a damn sight better than the last one.
19 December - Breaking News #1: The contribution status is now Open. If you have already sent stuff in over the past six months, don't worry, I still have it and it will get posted soon. Breaking News #2: Please send all Gallery contributions to: . All other contributions can continue to be sent to: (kit reviews, articles, etc.). Breaking News #3: Please welcome my new partner: Simon Barnes . New for today is:
18 December - I've been working on this article on and off for the past year. It's long past time I got it finished and posted:
15 December -
